The Y will enhance your child's natural desire to learn.

Our developmentally appropriate curriculum allows children to explore and examine their world and includes sharing and conversation, stories, songs and fingerplays, creative arts and crafts activities, large muscle activities, cooking projects, and exposure to shapes, numbers, colors, and letters. Your child's daily experience will include fun, warmth, security, exploring, and discovery.

We accept children starting at two years old who are potty-trained for our preschool programs. Here are helpful parent resources and program information:

Learning centers offer our special child development program the flexibility to accommodate your child's rate of development. Our many activities include curriculum-based learning centers and weekly themes, circle time, outdoor/gym activities, cooking and science projects, and music and movement.

Mealtime connection and comradery offer children the opportunity to share experiences and form positive habits toward eating. Guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Child Nutrition Program are followed at all locations. The Y provides an alternate meal or food item for children with food allergies when documented by a physician. Food brought from home for diet or medicinal purposes must be labeled and given to the teacher for proper storage. Each center provides information about meals and snacks.

Please bring a copy of the child's current physical, shot record, and original birth certificate. Due to state licensing agreements, incomplete registrations cannot be processed.

Electronic funds transfer (EFT) is the Y's preferred method of payment for tuition. Fees are automatically withdrawn from your checking or savings account weekly. Financial assistance is available for those not able to pay the full amount.

Child care and preschool are closed:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day and the day after
  • Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
  • In-service training days

The YMCA preschool care is licensed by the Department of Social Services to operate as a child care facility. Our program and facility conform to all standards established by the Department of Social Services. These standards focus on health, safety, and program quality. All centers are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and participate in the National YMCA Quality Check.

The Y makes membership and program available regardless of your ability to pay the standard fees. If you have a financial hardship, you can apply for financial assistance.
